MOQ in knitwear production is driven mainly by yarn dye-lot minimums and machine setup efficiency, not by an arbitrary manufacturer policy:
- Yarn minimums: Dyeing a custom color usually requires a minimum yarn quantity per lot.
- Knitting machine setup: Changing gauge or pattern on a knitting machine has a fixed setup cost, better absorbed across a larger run.
- Style complexity: Simple, single-color styles can often run at lower MOQs than multi-color jacquard or intarsia patterns.
How Pricing Is Structured
Unit pricing on sweaters and scarves is generally quoted per style and typically depends on:
- Yarn composition — wool, cotton, acrylic blends, or organic/certified fibers price differently.
- Knit complexity — plain knit vs. cable, jacquard, or intarsia patterns.
- Order volume — larger orders reduce the per-unit share of setup and dyeing costs.
- Finishing and packaging — labeling, folding, poly-bagging, and any special finishing add incremental cost.
